Direct links, save confirmation, names and unknown file sizes.
Choose a direct file link
FID supports HTTP and HTTPS file downloads. A direct link points to the file response, rather than a page containing a download button. Links that require a form submission or browser-only authorization may need to finish in Chrome.
Set the download options
In Add URL, choose File download. Set the folder and filename, connection count, speed limit, and optional start delay. These options apply to the new download.
Review Download file information
FID checks the file type and size in the background. Review the proposed name and destination, then choose Start download. You can start before detection finishes, including when the server does not reveal a size.
Download later keeps the entry paused. If you close an unconfirmed entry, it remains in the list awaiting confirmation. Reopening FID does not automatically reopen this panel: double-click the entry or select Resume when you are ready.
Unknown size is not always an error
Some servers stream a file without a total length. FID can show bytes transferred and activity while leaving the percentage and time estimate unavailable. Wait for the completed status before opening the output.
Server restrictions
Parallel connections and resume require server support. If ranges are unavailable or unsuitable, FID uses a single file connection. Sign-in, temporary links, server limits and changed files can affect a transfer.
