Tune parallel connections
Balance connection count, reliability, retries and timeouts.
Connections within one file
Choose 1–16 connections per file. FID splits suitable file downloads into chunks and transfers them in parallel. Small files can use fewer connections, and servers without suitable range support fall back to a single connection.
Choose a sensible starting point
Begin with the default. More connections do not guarantee faster downloads: the website may limit speed, your network may already be full, or extra connections may be refused. Reduce the count if a server becomes unreliable.
Timeouts and retries
Settings → Connection provides a timeout of 5–120 seconds, 0–10 retries, and a retry delay of 1–60 seconds. Retries help with temporary failures; they do not repair expired URLs or grant access to a restricted file.
System proxy
The connection settings can use the Windows system proxy. If your network requires a proxy, check the Windows configuration with your network administrator. A proxy can affect speed and server availability.
New downloads and existing jobs
Default connection and retry settings are intended for new jobs. The simultaneous-download limit affects scheduling immediately. A per-file connection count is separate from the number of downloads allowed to run at once.
