Use the Chrome extension

Connect the desktop app

Install the FID extension from the official listing linked on the download page when available. Keep the desktop app installed and enable Settings → Browser integration. The extension popup shows Desktop connected when the connection is ready.

The desktop browser connection must be registered for the installed extension. If your installation is not connected, use the browser setup supplied with that release or contact support. Installing an extension alone does not create the desktop connection.

Capture Chrome downloads

Turn on Capture Chrome downloads in the popup. Start a file download in Chrome and review the save-information dialog in FID. Capture is optional; turn it off for a download that must finish inside Chrome, including form-based or browser-only transfers.

The extension only hands a captured download over after it has been saved for FID to receive. If desktop handoff fails, it tries to let Chrome continue. Always check the browser’s downloads list after a failed handoff.

Use the popup or context menu

Paste a URL into the extension and select Download file or Video qualities. For a link on a webpage, the extension’s context-menu action can send it to FID.

Video buttons

Enable Show download buttons on videos. On supported players, use the button to select available quality. Buttons may not appear on restricted browser pages, protected players, closed components, or some fullscreen layouts. You can still try the individual video page URL in the popup.

Preferences and troubleshooting

Browser preferences can take up to a minute to sync while Chrome is running. If the popup says disconnected, check that the extension is enabled, browser integration is enabled in FID, and the release’s browser setup has completed. You can always paste direct file URLs into the desktop app.
